DENTAL IMPLANTS
BASIC FACTS
Dental implants are an excellent option for many patients who have missing teeth which are not replaced at all, or are replaced unsatisfactorily with a full or removable partial denture.
To determine if you are a candidate for implants, consultation is always recommended, at which time clinical assessment can be made.
The need for implants is also based upon the quality and extent of the remaining bone, and diagnostic tests would include various types of X-rays.
In some cases, CT scanning may be necessary. Our office is equipped with SimPlant®, so that CT studies can be utilized in conjunction with the treatment plan.
There are various types of implants. They are generally made of titanium and they are placed under the gum, allowed to heal for four to six months, and then are exposed for the placement of a crown or other dental restoration. The final crown or restoration is placed by your dentist.
INDICATIONS FOR DENTAL IMPLANTS
Missing teeth which are not replaced
Missing teeth which are replaced with loose or uncomfortable dentures
To fill spaces or gaps for cosmetic or functional reconstruction
Implants can be used to replace a single tooth or many teeth in a row, with fixed crowns. Implants can also be used more sparingly to support a lower full denture, which otherwise would not fit comfortably or be very loose.
As with any oral surgical procedure, consultation is recommended. Also, various types of anesthesia can be used for the purpose of placing implants.
